  1. Personally, I've never been a huge fan of "Oklahoma!". I've always thought that the plot wraps up things a little too nicely, but this point aside "Oklahoma!" is a rather pleasant listening experience. "Oh! What a Beautiful Morning!" is arguably one of the greatest musical solos ever created. I simply cannot imagine someone listening to this music and not experiencing some form of emotion. In addition to this song, I find Jud's solo "Lonely Room" to be incredibly chilling, but also successful in making the audience feel sympathetic to the musical's antagonist. Jud may be plain, mean, and rather uninteresting, but ultimately he is simply a lonely man. This song captures that spirit and gives us an insightful look into this misunderstood character. Of course, I could not talk about "Oklahoma!" without mentioning the brilliant character of Ado Annie. She is simply hilarious. Her song, "I Cant Say No" contains a lovely melody and rollicking lyrics. Ado's hilarity is further felt in her interactions with Will Parker and Ali Hakim. Honestly, I believe that the character of Ado Annie may be my favorite creation of Rodgers and Hammerstein. - John Stafford III

  2. I'm very much on the same page as you John. "Oklahoma" is just to clean cut and campy for me. I recognize the value it has for the musical theatre, but it's just too nice. However, I've begun to appreciate it the older I've gotten. I love "Oh! What A Beautiful Morning," though. It's just...happy. And Curly is happy. And you can feel it from the first lyrics. And you bring up a very good description when talking about "Lonely Room." It's got a haunting realism to it, and one can't help but love Jud in that moment. I LOVE "I Can't Say No," and I have since I was in high school. A great friend of mine--who's now performing in Musical Theatre Wichita--sang it in our show choir and made me fall in love with the song. And anyone who hopes to do Ado Annie justice will have very big shoes to fill as far as my perception of the character goes.

  3. This show is one to watch if you want to leave with a good feeling. Most of the show sounds happy or about the couples in love. Yes there are parts where we see characters dealing with problems and there are issues between Curly and Jud, but even when Curly is singing "Pore Jud is Daid" it doesn't sound super sad, it's just a pause in the energy of the chorus. Personally, I wouldn't want to marry a man who told his "rival" to hang himself, that's just wrong. "All Er Nuthin" is probably my favorite because it's fun and the banter between Will and Ado Annie is light and realistic. This recording is, as John said, pleasant to listen to. It's nice for a Sunday morning.

  4. I don't know why the one I listened is by Hugh Jackman, i am a huge fan of him. I love Hugh Jackman voice ,In 2000 played The Wolverine . In 1999 he played OKLAHOMA. In this musical actors used with freely. The lyrics and music feel like relax ,and have positive power for me. The rhythm of the music were slowly and deliberately, like a cheerful bird. You cannot help but putting yourself in Oklahoma sitting on the front porch and looking up at the hawk soaring in the sky! and let me feel this world is full of happiness and peaceful. There is no stress ,no enemy. I do not fear anything. From the music I feel like everyone carries the dream and this world is simple and cute. I think after my final exam I will choose a day sitting in my grandfather's yard, enjoying the sunshine, taste a cup of coffee and listen this musical with him. Most of my life is outside my family, this summer I will spend more time with my family , also I think this musical is really good for my family get together, so cute!! After that "Kansas City "songs like really interesting. I really like this musical .

  5. I have heard certain parts of Oklahoma! before but just sitting down and listening to the entire score made me appreciate it even more. I want to read and go and see Oklahoma! now. In Dance for Theatre 1 we had a dance to "The Farmer and The Cowman" but the version that we danced to was an updated version of the original song which I enjoyed the original more than the updated version. The overall score made me think of the southwest and just having a good time and celebration. I really enjoyed the entire score and would recommend Oklahoma! to anyone.

  6. Oklahoma was the first musical I was ever involved in so it will always have a special place in my heart. My favorite song from the soundtrack is "The Farmer and the Cowman". This is my favorite because of how upbeat and fast-paced it is. The whole soundtrack is awesome. "Oh! What a Beautiful Morning" is a song that I sing a lot when I am just by myself because it is such a happy song and puts me in a good mood every time I hear it.

  8. I felt that Oklahoma was just screaming America. I can truly see why this show was seen by American soldiers before they went to war besides the fact that the tickets were cheap. I really enjoyed learning about this show in dance and being able to listen to the full sound track I don't know why I did not listen to it before.

  11. Thank God that comment sent!!!!! Like I tried to say the first three times... I enjoyed this musical. Rodgers and Hammerstein made great leaps with the American Musical and my Favorite song is "The Farmer and the Cowman" because they square dance! I might find time to cool down and elaborate later but for now I'm singing out! Peace and Love to all!

  12. I liked this soundtrack a LOT more than I anticipated. The lyrics are fun and the music is catchy. I really loved "I Cain't Say No". I also watched the video of "The Farmer and the Cowman" on the Broadway Musical Home page because I wanted to see the square dancing that Landon was talking about - so fun! Now I understand why it's a show that is so often done.

So it is definitely one of my favorites, I also really loved how upbeat "I Cain't Say No" it always makes me laugh!

  15. We watched some of this in dance class so it made me want to watch the entire thing. I love the music, very lively. I enjoy the dance number music almost more than I enjoyed the lyrics. If you aren't watching a performance you can still imagine what the dancing would be like. The dream ballet was so different. Agnes De Mille knocked that one out of the park.

  16. I really love the song ' Oh, What a Beautiful Morning!'. The song definitely caught my ears with its beautiful lyrics. Like the lyrics, I would like to say 'Oh, what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day, I got a beautiful feeling, everything's going my way'. Waltz was perfect to describe Oklahoma's peaceful view. Very soft music. I enjoyed a lot with the full of happiness.
